Yoga therapy adapts and applies yoga techniques to help you improve challenges physically, emotionally and mentally.

The results include feeling better, restored balance, increased vitality and improved attitude.

 

Is Yoga Therapy different from yoga class?

Yoga therapy addresses a specific issue. We create a custom, specialized practice to address your challenges. Yoga Therapy addresses physical, emotional and mental needs.

A yoga class is designed to stretch the whole body. A teacher may or may not observe that you have a problem with your hip, for example. A teacher may not be trained to offer modifications or postures to address an imbalance. Yoga therapy not only looks at the hip. It looks at the shoulders and knees, which can compensate for the hips.

Yoga therapy looks at how you are using breath and how you can use breath to help the body heal. We look at emotional needs connected to the physical needs.

The Yoga Therapy profession has articles indexed on PubMed, an annual research conference and a clinical practice publication. Sharon was one of the first to be certified through the International Association of Yoga Therapists.

What happens in a session?

  • We talk about your physical and non-physical pain.

  • We'‘ll explore using breath and some positions to alleviate pain and stress.

  • We’ll also use breath and positions to bring you into joy and peace.

  • You’ll let me know what kind of time you plan to dedicate to your practice, what tools and space you have at home, and then we’ll design a practice for you.
